NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course (PPITH)
Short Description : To develop in students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.
Pre-Requisities:
1) Must have passed the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course
OR
2) Must have passed the PPITH Pre-Course Evaluation
More Details: This course is a MINIMUM EIGHT (8) HOURS long and is conducted by an NRA Instructor in a classroom.

Students will be provided with the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in The Home
The topics to be covered are:
1) Introduction to Defensive Shooting
2) Basic Defensive Pistol Skills
3) Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership, and the Use of Deadly Force
4) Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
5) Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
6) Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
Bring your pistol (revolver and/or semi-automatic) and a minimum of 200 rounds of factory new ammunition in the original factory box and do NOT load any firearms or magazines. A semi-automatic is preferred.
Bring appropriate eye and ear protection.
Wear a shirt that buttons up to your throat, shoes covering your entire foot, and a hat with a bill.

NRA Instructor Personal Protection In The Home Course (PPITH)
Pre-Requisites:
1) NRA (BIT) Basic Instructor Training must be completed within the 24 months preceding this course
2) Must be NRA Certified Pistol Instructor
3) Must pass Personal Protection In The Home Instructor Pre-Course Qualification and Test
Short Description : To develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course
More Details: The course is nine hours long and is conducted by an NRA Training Counselor in a classroom and at a shooting facility.
PPITH Instructor candidates will learn the following topics:
If you have attended the BIT within the preceding 24 months of this class you will not need to attend the BIT and the cost will be $275.
A pre-course Qualification will be required at the beginning of the class. If you fail the pre-course Qualification all but $75 of the cost of this course will be refunded.
All materials will be provided for you. You must supply your own ammunition for all range activities.
(BIT) Basic Instructor Training will begin at 5:00 PM and is six hours on the day before the class.
The PPITH Instructor Class will begin at 8:00 on the day of the class and is nine hours.
Bring your .handgun and 500 rounds of ammunition.

NRA BASICS OF PERSONAL PROTECTION OUTSIDE THE HOME
Pre-Requisites:
1) Must have passed the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In the Home (PPITH) 8-hour course
Short Description : To develop in students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective, responsible, and ethical use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home
More Details: This course is fourteen hours long and is conducted by an NRA Instructor in a classroom. Level 1 is nine hours and Level 2 is an additional five hours.

1) Introduction to Concealed Carry Safety and the Defensive Mindset
2) Introduction to Self-Defense and Concealed Carry
3) Legal Aspects of Concealed Carry and Self-Defense
4) Carry modes and Concealment
5) Presenting the Pistol from Concealment
6) Presentation, Position, and Movement
7) Special Shooting Techniques

NRA Instructor Personal Protection Outside The Home Course (PPOTH)
Pre-Requisites:
1) NRA (BIT) Basic Instructor Training must be completed within the 24 months preceding this course
2) Must be NRA Certified Pistol Instructor
3) Must be NRA Certified Personal Protection In The Home Instructor (PPITH)
4) Must have passed the NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH) basic 14-hour course
Short Description : To develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home Course
More Details: The course is sixteen hours long and is conducted by an NRA Training Counselor in a classroom and at a shooting facility.
PPOTH Instructor candidates will learn the following topics:
If you have attended the BIT within the preceding 24 months of this class you will not need to attend the BIT and the cost will be $300.
All materials will be provided for you. You must supply your own ammunition for all range activities.
(BIT) Basic Instructor Training will begin at 5:00 PM and is six hours on the day before the class.
The PPOTH Instructor Class will begin at 8:00 on the day of the class and is sixteen hours.
Bring your .handgun, personal defense holster, cover garment, and 500 rounds of ammunition.
